Book Review: Until I Die by Amy Plum

Pages: 352
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pub. Date: May 8, 2012
Source: E-galley from Edelweiss
My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

If this series is new to you, refer to my review of Die For Me, book one in the series.
Goodreads says, "Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love. As their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy. In Die for Me, Amy Plum created a captivating paranormal mythology with immortal revenants and a lush Paris setting. Until I Die is poised to thrill readers with more heart-pounding suspense, spellbinding romance, and a cliff-hanger ending that will leave them desperate for the third and final novel in the series."

Kate and Vincent are together again, but things are getting a bit complicated.  You see, Vincent is still a revenant, which means he sacrifices himself to save other people's lives.  But this time around, he promises Kate that he will refrain from doing this.  However, with this promise comes major risks.  New to the scene are the characters of Violette and Ambrose, who are old and powerful revenants. In Until I Die, they shake things up for Kate, Vincent and friends.  Until I Die is filled with the perfect amount of romance, action, and fantasy. Fans of this series will not be disappointed with Amy Plum's latest installment.

One reason I love this series so much is the simple fact that Kate and Vincent are such a great couple. I probably haven't felt this way since Rose and Dimitri in the Vampire Academy series.  They have such great chemistry and I find the mythology behind revenants to be equally fascinating.  It definitely doesn't get old.  Another thing that doesn't get old is the beautiful setting of Paris. It's such a perfect location for this paranormal story and I loved being lost in Kate's world.

I must admit that I missed a few of the other characters that were more prominent in Die For Me; however, Ambrose and Violette were able to fill that void.  Newcomers to the series, they felt very mysterious and I liked learning more about their past, especially as Kate befriends Violette.  Also, Georgia, Kate's spunky sister, plays a major role in Die For Me and I was pleased as she is one of my favorite characters! Kate and Georgia's relationship is a strong one and will continue to grow in this book.

The most jaw dropping part of Until I Die is the cliffhanger. Dear lord! I was shocked and in a state of disbelief.  What an ending! I am already salivating for the third and final book in the series, which unfortunately doesn't come out till May of 2013.  AHH! Let's hope I can wait!

  1. To be honest, I never finished the first book. At the time, it just wasn't the kind of book I was in the mood for. After reading your review of Until I Die and your comparisons to Rose and Dimitri, I think I will give this series another chance. I do like the idea of a book set in Paris...

  3. I thought the first 2/3 of this book were a bit slow, as much as I loved spending time with a pretty happy Kate and Vincent, I didn't feel like too much actually happened. The last 1/3 though? *dies* AMAZING! I got to the end and may or may not have sobbed aloud because there were no more pages for me to read:) I can't believe we have to wait until May of 2013 now. *dies a little more*

  5. Nice review! You've made me curious by comparing Kate and Vincent's relationship to Rose and Dimitri (love those two as a couple). I know the first book is on sale for Kindle, so I'll check it out!
