When I'm Not Reading YA: Children's Book Edition (3)

Obviously, books are important to me and I have been trying to read as many as I can with my son, Dylan.  This past fall and winter I shared with you some of the baby books I have been reading with him.  I thought I would give you an update!

My little guy had a big birthday on the 27th! We celebrated his 1st birthday! I still can't believe it.  I thought it would be fun to share with you guys some new books that he has recently added to his bookshelf.  Also, I am sharing a few books that I found at my childhood house and knew immediately that he must have them for his library.

 

Strega Nona by Tomie dePaola- I remember reading this Caldecott Honor book when I was a kid.  What's not to love? There's a magic pot, pasta, and a Grandmother witch who saves the day.

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg- Dylan received this one for Christmas.  I was so excited to re-read it with him and experience the magic all over again.  

 

Where is Baby's Beach Ball? by Karen Katz - Dylan loves lifting all the flaps to find baby's beach ball. It's perfect for summertime.

Very Hairy Bear by Alice Schertle and Illustrated by Matt Phelan - This book describes the seasons and how the bear enjoys them except in the winter, he takes a long nap. The illustrates are so adorable and Dylan's copy is signed by the illustrator thanks to his Nana.  

Here are some books from my childhood:

 

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens (illustrated children's version) - It's never too early to have some classics on your shelf and this one was a favorite of mine.  Who doesn't love Miss. Havisham? Plus, my grandmother gave me this and I'm excited to pass it onto my son. 

The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks - This was a favorite of mine when I was a child. I think Dylan will love it!

 

The Black Cauldron by Lloyd Alexander- I loved this series as a child. I even had the old-school computer game. I also loved the fact that Alexander lived in the neighborhood I grew up in.

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein - In my opinion, this book of poetry is a must have for any child.  It was definitely a favorite of mine and I am glad I can pass my copy along to my son.
