This month just flew by! I guess summer didn't get my request last month when I asked it to slow down. I wish the winter would go by as quickly as summer does!
July was sort of weird for me reading wise. I read a lot of just "okay" and "entertaining enough" sort of books. I almost fell into a reading slump, but towards the end of the month, things picked up for me.
Books Read in July:
1. Nantucket Sisters by Nancy Thayer - 3.5 out of 5 stars
2. On the Fence by Kasie West - 3.5 out of 5 stars
3. Sweet Salt Air by Barbara Delinsky - 3.5 out of 5 stars
4. The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines - 3.5 out of 5 stars
5. The Fortune Hunter by Daisy Goodwin - 3.5 out of 5 stars
6. Cocktails for Book Lovers by Tessa Smith McGovern - 4 out of 5 stars
7. Magnolia by Kristi Cook - 4 out of 5 stars (review to come)
8. The Last Original Wife by Dorothea Benton Frank - 4 out of 5 stars (review to come)
Did Not Finish:
1. The Boys of Summer by C.J. Duggan - I thought for sure this book would really appeal to me and be the perfect beach read, but I couldn't get past some slut shaming and bulling. Ultimately, I couldn't get into it.
2. Long Life the King by Fay Wheldon - The writer of Upstairs, Downstairs is the author of this book, so I thought that it would be a definite win for me, but ultimately, there were too many characters that I wasn't so sure about. Plus, I didn't read book one, so I was a bit confused. I may revisit this if I can get my hands on a copy of book one.
1. Favorite Book: Cocktails for Book Lovers by Tessa Smith McGovern - This book is just pure fun. Have you entered my giveaway for a copy?
2. Biggest Surprise: Magnolia by Kristi Cook - I thought for sure that I would be rolling my eyes about this book, but I adored the Romeo and Juliet vibe and the southern setting. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. This book is a perfect summertime read.
3. Biggest Disappointment: The Fortune Hunter by Daisy Goodwin - Now, don't get me wrong. This book is entertaining, but I was hoping it would have been as good as her first book, The American Heiress. For me, that wasn't the case.
4. Favorite Part of July: My son's second birthday party and celebrating with family and friends was my most memorable moment of the month. Also, finally starting to feel like myself. I was sick for a few weeks….the worst!
5. Favorite Post: My Q&A with Katherine Longshore, one of my favorite young adult authors is my absolute favorite post of the month.
I hope you guys had a great July and thanks for visiting. Have a great weekend,

Glad you're feeling better, and Cocktails for Book Lovers does sound like lots of fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Meg!! It is a lot of fun -- love me some cocktails and of course, good books! Thanks for visiting.
DeleteI've heard such good things about Magnolia Christina, I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of that one:) Slut shaming and bullying are things that really don't work for me either, so I'm not sure the Boys of Summer is something I'd be in a rush to pick up. And a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your son!
ReplyDeleteI think you will like Magnolia, Jenny! Thank you so much for the kind thoughts about his birthday. I appreciate it. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI'm glad you are feeling better! I amazingly didn't get sick this summer... I'm sure my body is just waiting for the school year. Happy belated birthday to your son! I have Magnolia and have read the first few chapters, but I'm in a major slump right now, and nothing is holding my attention. Oh well. God, July really did just fly by!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I usually never get sick in the summer…..just some bad luck this year! Thank you for the kind thought regarding my son's birthday. We had a great time. Magnolia is pretty good----definitely a fun and fluffy read. I have been in a reading slump as well. :( Thanks for visiting, Natalie!
DeleteAwwww yay for turning two! I loved the cake shot you shared on Instagram.
