If you are like me and you love Sarah Dessen, then you are always looking for read-alikes. Sarah's books are usually realistic, have interesting family dynamics, smart, have relatable protagonists and most of the time take place during the SUMMER. Many of her books take place in a fictional beach town called Colby. Here are some of my recommendations for books that are similar in style and setting to Sarah Dessen. I have linked the title of the books to my reviews in case you are interested.
1. The Summer I Turned Pretty or To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
2. Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland
3. Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
4. Since You've Been Gone, Second Chance Summer or Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
5. My Life Next Door or What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick
6. Moonglass or Golden by Jessi Kirby
7. The Boys Next Door/Endless Summer or Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols
8. Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door or Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
9. Love and Other Foreign Words by Erin McCahon
10. Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
Let me know what you think and let me know if you have any Sara Dessen read-alikes to share with me that didn't make my top ten list. This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I've never read a Sarah Dessan book...maybe this is a good starting point for me :-) SOunds like she is a must read.
ReplyDeleteOh man! You definitely should if you like contemporary YA. Thanks for visiting, Laura!
DeleteI've read a few of these, but I still have SO many I need to read! My library has the audiobooks of Jenny Han's Summer series, so I'm to get to those one day soon. I think I am going to save my Huntley Fitzpatrick and Morgan Matson books to read closer to summer. The Jessi Kirby books are a MUST to read this year as well! This is a super great list!! I want to read them all NOW!! Haha!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to listen/read Jenny Han's summer series. It's the best. Huntley Fitzpatrick and Morgan Matson are perfect for summer…can't wait to hear your thoughts on those authors. Jessi Kirby's books are fantastic too. Thanks for checking out my post, Christy!
DeleteI've actually never read any of Sarah Dessan's books or any of the books you posted about... I think it's pretty cool how you choose this topic for today, though. I like it when people compare books by read-alikes, but I'm not very good at it. :)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the TTT link-up.
Thank you! I hope you get to read Sarah Dessen soon…she's the best! Thanks for visiting.
DeleteYES! Such a great list Christina! I adore Huntley Fitzpatrick, and I'm excited to give Jessi Kirby a try, I've heard good things. I'm starting her THINGS WE KNOW BY HEART this week:)
ReplyDeleteMe too. I love Fitzpatrick's books, especially in the summer time. Jessi Kirby is also good. I really enjoyed Golden and Moonglass. I hope to start Things We Know soon as well. Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting, Jenny!
DeleteLOVE all of your choices! I still need to check out 9 and 10 (especially 10 - I always hear how wonderful it is).
ReplyDeleteGreat top ten :D
Ohh! Yes! definitely check out 9 and 10…especially 10. I think you would like Megan McCafferty's series. Thanks for visiting, Lea!
DeleteAs you know, Contemps with summer settings are my faves and I can't wait to start reading them again soon (my winter YA reading has been too much doom and gloom!) Really looking forward to Emery Lord's new book which is out at the end of this month (I think?) Loved Open Road Summer. Nantucket Blue is such an all-time fave of mine too! :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! I couldn't agree more…I'm ready for some summertime reads. I didn't get an ARC of Emery Lord's latest book, so I will have to get my hands on a copy when it's published….definitely want to read that one too. I hope it's as good as Open Road Summer! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteThis is a really good topic choice. I work in a bookstore and people come in all the time looking for books similar to Sarah Dessen's. Many of these I recommend, but you have a few on your list that I didn't think of. Great choices! Thanks for the recommendations!
