10 Books To Read in August

I have such bittersweet feelings for August, but for me, it always feels like the Sunday of summer. More "Fall" books are starting to hit shelves and I am desperately trying to soak up some of the last beach reads. Will you be reading "beach reads" until Labor Day or will you start some fall reads at the end of August?

1. By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult

"Two women, centuries apart—one of whom is the real author of Shakespeare’s plays—are both forced to hide behind another name to make their voices heard." You can't really go wrong with Picoult!

2.  The God of the Woods by Liz Moore

This one was published last month, but I see a lot of people reading it right now. It was a BOTM pick as well. It's set at an Adirondack summer camp, which makes this thriller perfect for summer.

3. All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker

This romance/mystery is getting a lot of buzz and was a Read with Jenna book pick as well as a BOTM pick. I have heard great things and am excited to dive into this unique missing person story.

4. The Same Bright Stars by Ethan Joella

This one takes place at a Delaware beach and involves a family restaurant. Doesn't the cover scream read me on vacation?

5. Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid

A reimagning of the classic tale but through Lady Macbeth's eyes. Reid has given her a voice on this spin on Shakespeare's well known character.

6. The Seventh Veil of Salome by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Fans of Mexican Gothic will be happy to dive into another novel by Moreno-Garcia. This one takes place during the Golden Age of Hollywood.

7. The Wedding People by Alison Espach

Another Read with Jenna pick that is getting a lot of buzz. It seems like a great summer read about an unexpected wedding guest and the paths we take in life.

8. Scandalous Women by Gil Paul

This biographical fiction brings to life the story of Jackie Collins and Jacqueline Susann, two unconventional women whose stories will sure to be compelling.

9. The Break-Up Pact by Emma Lord

I adore Emma Lord and am excited to check out her adult debut novel. This romance seems perfect for a day at the beach.

10. Heavy Hitter by Katie Cotugno

Who doesn't love a celebrity-athlete romance?

I also plan on squeezing in a few more beach reads that I didn't get to this summer, especially if I am at the beach. So, let me know in the comments below what books you are excited to read this month.

  1. What a great TBR! Usually I am not super interested in Jenna's picks, but The Wedding People has been on my TBR for a little while now! I have so many summer books to catch up on, I will probably wait until at least September to start "fall" reads.

    1. Yes! I am definitely waiting till September for most of the "fall" reads. I hope to read some more beach reads before summer is over. Wedding People seems like a good one for the beach! Thanks for visiting, Angela.

  2. I haven't quite made the shift to fall reading yet - I've still got quite a few summery (and Austenesque!) reads I want to get to in August.

I snagged The Wedding People as my BOTM and am quite intrigued! Also very curious about the new Emma Lord - it sounds so fun, and that cover is all the things.
