10 Books to Read in October

Where did September go? It just flew by and now spooky season is upon us. I love to curl up with a slightly spooky read or a thriller during the month of October, but I've also been sent a bunch of holiday books for review. Is it too early to deck the halls? We will see! Here are the top ten books I've had my eye on this month.

1. The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern by Lynda Cohen Loigman

Pub. Date: 10/8

A charming story about new beginnings and second chances for a newly retired pharmacist who retires in South Florida. There's also flashbacks to her life in Brooklyn during the 1920s.

2. The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins

Pub. Date: 10/29

A psychological thriller about hidden truths; it takes place on an isolated Scottish island.

3.  The Bletchley Riddle by Ruta Sepetys and Steve Sheinkin

Pub. Date: 10/8

A middle grade adventure featuring two siblings; the novel that takes readers back to WWII.

4.  The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak

Pub. Date: 10/8

A suspenseful read for fans of Riley Sager; it's about a father trying to save his daughter before it's too late.

5.  The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden

Pub. Date: 10/1

Another bingeable and dark story from McFadden all about an obsession.

6.  The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore

Pub. Date: 8/30/23

A cozy small town romance that reads like your favorite rom-com.

Holiday Novels:

7.  Christmas Sweater Weather by Jaqueline Snowe

Pub. Date: 10/8

A single dad and his best friend's sister get together for some festive fun in this holiday romance.

8. A Winter Wish by Emily Stone

Pub. Date: 10/15

An unexpected inheritance that forces two opposites to work together in this heartwarming read.

9. Kiss Me at Christmas by Jenny Bayliss

Pub. Date: 9/24

This holiday novel is being described as White Christmas meets Nora Ephron.

10. The Christmas Countdown by Holly Cassidy

Pub. Date: 10/22

This rom-com features a heartbroken woman who takes on her sister's Advent calendar challenge to lift her spirits.

There are so many holiday books coming out this month. Is it too soon to read them? I think I need to read a few "fall" books first. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and what books you hope to read this month.

  3. October is totally fair game for adding holiday/festive books to the mix! (Especially for me, since I don't really do *spooky* season). I'm also hoping to dive into Pumpkin Spice Cafe very soon - I'm hoping to juggle cozy fall vibes with a sprinkling of festive magic for the rest of the year, lol

    1. Yes! Glad to hear I can break out my holiday books soon. I don't really have the stomach for spooky reads - I try but most freak me out. I try to read more witchy reads in October, but that holiday TBR pile is tempting me! Thanks for visiting, Rebecca.
